“International Forum on the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games”

Theme: “Harmony: OGGI and Citizen Participation”

 


Introduction

With the aim to further develop the cultural connotation consisting in Olympics and enhance the Olympic spirit and humanistic concept, International Forum on the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with Harmony: OGGI and Citizen Participation as its core theme will be held by Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee ,Renmin University of China,People ' s Government of Xuanwu District and Beijing United University,on June 25 th and 26 th , 2005.

Forum objective

Harmony is both the essence in Chinese culture and the core of the humanistic Olympics---one of the three catchwords for Beijing Olympics (the other two are sci-tech Olympics and Green Olympics). On this basis, this forum is aimed to further develop the cultural connotation of the Olympic Games and enhance the Olympic spirit and humanistic concept; and with the OGGI as a guide, this forum is intended to enrich the Olympic concept from the cultural perspective; motivate people from all walks of life to offer their advice on how to make 2008 Beijing Olympic Games a successful and rewarding event, share the rich experiences gained by former hosting countries and explore the possibilities for cooperation between different professions, areas and even nations; promote the mass education through Olympics and establish an interactive channel for the mass participation in Olympic cause, provide the intellectual assistance for the Beijing Olympics in strengthening its humanistic acknowledgement and help promote Chinese culture all over the world.

  1. Visiting and taking part into the morning exercises with the community citizens, such as, shadowboxing, Dishu (Chinese calligraphy on the ground), Beijing opera, Yangge (folk dance), Kongzhu (folk games), Zhongfan (folk games), Tumble Performance and so on.

  2. Sight-seeing Daguanyuan park and enjoying ethical cultural performance (such as flying kites, windmill, ethical handcraft exhibition etc.)

Visiting China traditional culture avenue and shopping center which have hundreds of years history, such as Neiliansheng (the most famous shoemaker in Archaian Beijing), Ruifuxiang (the largest clothes shop of Beijing in the old days), Hongbaotang (ancient books shop), etc.

     This forum sincerely invites the experts and planners related to the topics under discussion to exchange their ideas, anticipate the future direction and realize the international cooperation.
     All the articles and speech drafts should be submitted to the organizing committee in e-mail with the following content (of the author):

     Brief introduction of the working unit
     Field of academic interest
     Article or the speech outline
